Memoir- Time in my life

KARATE AND THE HIJAB Language and identity work hand in hand in creating an individuals person, and they cannot be separated since language identifies you in terms of the way you think, speak and your perspective on different ideas and thoughts, they could be your own or someone else. Language allows you to communicate in a different way, although language to me is not just represented using words through reading yourself and reading other people through movements and techniques, to me karate was a language.       Karate is a sport that has a played a big part in my life and shaped me into who I am today, I've been playing karate for 8 years currently, and still continue to play, although there was a very challenging part of my life in which I started to wear the hijab, I was focused not only on the opinion of others but what I thought of myself.  The feeling of my own identity was a challenge and exposing it to the faces and thoughts of others. When f...

2 pack - My block

Tupac grew up in a ghetto environment, where crime rates are high and the environment is poor, his lyrics in the song "my block" clearly reflects some of the experience that he encountered during his life. Furthermore, in his song, he represents his rough and aggressive emotions about his younger self and younger experiences. In the first few lines of his first verse  he mentions "sh**ts scary, our black on black crime is legendary but at times unnecessary, I'm getting worried", this shows in multiple experiences of black to black crime he experienced due to his own actions and the actions of others that was done for no good reason making him worried about his own life by being a black person in such a dangerous and risky environment. he follows up by saying "teardrops and closed caskets" where he starts to remember all the funerals he attended of people in his community and the dull times where he views his loved ones, friends and the people of his...

Me talk pretty one day- Tone and mood paragraph.

TONE AND MOOD - ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY The author of "me talk pretty one day" coveys a humorous tone by sharing and exposing his feelings also by being self-deprecating, this is depicted when he states "They were all you, attractive and well dressed, causing me to feel not unlike Pa kettle trapped backstage after a fashion show." The author presents his teacher as being very strict and cruel towards not only him but his peers as well, which sets out a very fearful tone in some areas of the text. The teacher is directly shown to be cruel when The author starts to write about her backslash at every person responds to the question asked by her. Furthermore, The author uses hyperbole to further describe the teacher, for example, Sedaris   states " her teeth are the size of tombstones." The author uses these literary techniques to show his tone and attitude that is depicted by his teacher; this includes a fearful, timid and nervous attitude.

"Broken English"..how is it perceived?

Broken English how is it perceived?  The way we communicate reflects they way we understand the world and people around us, it enables us to understand different ideas, perspectives, and points of view. language is an essential in creating individuality and flourishing new ideas and blooming our own individual life stories. Language allows us to create interesting points of view that are creating through our interaction with other individuals. Modern society has embedded us to view the way people speak and then enable us to categorize and stereotype these people by the way they make words escape their mouths. We begin to have a standard of how people should speak, but who are we to decide how an individual should speak?. When we notice someone talking in "limited" or "broken" English we instantly think of them as being "uneducated" and "ignorant"; We categorize these people as being in impoverished thus we belittle them look down on...
