2 pack - My block

Tupac grew up in a ghetto environment, where crime rates are high and the environment is poor, his lyrics in the song "my block" clearly reflects some of the experience that he encountered during his life. Furthermore, in his song, he represents his rough and aggressive emotions about his younger self and younger experiences.

In the first few lines of his first verse  he mentions "sh**ts scary, our black on black crime is legendary but at times unnecessary, I'm getting worried", this shows in multiple experiences of black to black crime he experienced due to his own actions and the actions of others that was done for no good reason making him worried about his own life by being a black person in such a dangerous and risky environment. he follows up by saying "teardrops and closed caskets" where he starts to remember all the funerals he attended of people in his community and the dull times where he views his loved ones, friends and the people of his community lose their lives as he griefs over them, and watches as the caskets are closed above them for the last time. tupac lived a ghetto community where most of young teens and men had no fathers, and thus he knew they were more prone to being a part of this violence and will be killed and this is represented when he says "and certain death for us ghetto bastards" where he refers to 'bastards' as the fathers that left their daughters and sons. Through his lyrics tell the viewers that crime was built out of poverty and the need of money, in one of his interviews about the song he says "n**ga has to make his own jobs" and this is true since they couldn't get hired for any other jobs they had to commit crimes the ghetto to get what they need to support themselves and their families. Moreover, he represents the ghetto as a trap that can't be escaped since it is a life of poverty and crime and sometimes the only way out of it is through illegal acts such as selling drugs. Though this part of the lyrics where he mentions "Used to play fight with my homes but they still stuck in the pen" which shows how grateful he is to be able to experience part of the non-ghetto life since his 'homies' are still stuck and trapped in the ghetto life of 'thug' life, and had to commit crimes because money is a necessity in order to maintain their lifestyles.
